I always enjoy my students' reactions to art. It is amazing to see how they find wonder and a validation of their own knowledge in things that adults sometimes pass by without noticing.
Recently, I showed my upper elementary (4th-6th grade) and lower elementary (1st-3rd grade) students a video about Leonardo Da Vinci, the genius painter, scientist, mathematician, engineer, inventor, sculptor, architect, botanist, musician, and writer from the Renaissance. In a section of the video where it mentions two of Leonardo's most famous artworks, The Last Supper, and the Mona Lisa, my students immediately turned to the wall where we have a reproduction of La Gioconda (Italian title of the Mona Lisa) that was donated by one of our families, and said with joy: "We have that painting here!".
Their reaction brought a smile to my face. How great that our students Observe and Reflect on the world around them.
